Viking Communications Acquires KKYD-FM from Three Points Media

Jerry Zimmer, President of Viking Communications, announced the filing with the FCC of an asset purchase of Topeka radio station KKYD-FM (licensed to Osage City) from Three Points Media Kansas, LLC.*  Viking Communications also operates stations KLZR-FM and KLWN-AM in Lawrence. Ron Covert is Chief Operating Officer and will also handle duties of Market Manager over the Topeka and Lawrence stations.

KKYD-FM, known as WILD 92.9, plays Contemporary Hits and is top rated among young adults in Topeka. No programming changes are planned.

Viking Communications is a growing, privately held radio company, based on the marketing philosophy of Zimmer Radio Group founder, Jerome Zimmer, of getting results for advertisers and serving the community. “It’s time to get back to our roots and away from the Wall Street way of doing business. If we help enough advertisers get results and ring cash registers, everyone wins.”

In addition, Viking Communications recently announced the addition of Hank Booth, long time radio veteran and former owner of KLZR-FM and KLWN-AM as the station manager for KLWN. Currently in the process of changing to an all news and talk format, Lawrence‘s “NewsTalk 1320 KLWN” will increase its focus on local Lawrence news and community issues.  The station’s live and local morning and afternoon news and sports programs will be accompanied by a diverse line-up of regional and national talk and interview personalities.

Bill Lytle of Media Services Group was the exclusive broker representing the buyer.
